Nazisploitation at its best (or worst)!

* * *

The movie begins a few years after World War II with ex-Commandant of the Nazi party, Conrad Von Starker (Marc Loud) driving to an old concentration camp.  He meets up with a woman by the name of Lise Cohen (Daniela Levy) who we find out was a prisoner at the same concentration camp.  We then jump back to the day that Lise showed up there.  The two groups of women that are dropped off there are separated with some of them are sent to a tunnel to be gassed (or torched) and the rest to be used by the soldiers as toys.  We are shown a line of naked men (soldiers) and naked women (prisoners) as Commandant Conrad Von Starker starts to tell the soldiers about how the Jews are to be used by them for whatever they wish.  He shows them still frames of two women tied on a giant X and in a 69 position.  He explains how this is a mother and daughter that didn’t want to be separated, and now they never will.  He then shows them a woman who is playing with, smearing and eating shit (coprophagia), and while this is going on some of the guys start to touch themselves.  From there he tells them to take the women and use them but don’t give them any pleasure.  During this Von Starker notices Lise and he takes a peculiar interest in her.  Throughout the movie Von Starker puts Lise through a bunch of torture in order to finally crack her, but in the process he seems to be getting too obsessed.  Can Lise withstand the torture or does Commandant Conrad Von Starker finally break her and that is why they have meet up after the war?

When it comes to the acting in this movie I was quite surprised.  I’m not saying that it’s some of the best that there is, but most of the time the cast did a pretty darn good job.  Most of the dialogue is pretty bad, but the majority of them deliver it with conviction.  One of the best examples of this is when Von Starker and his “round table” are having a dinner and a scientist (sorry his name escapes me) is giving a speech about how Jews can be used for numerous things.  He brings up the regular things, but when he starts talking about using them for food he just has this crazed look in his eyes that makes you believe that he really means it.  Another example of this is with Alma (Maristella Greco) and every time she does anything.  She talks and even walks with an air of sadism, and the look in her eyes just makes you wonder how much pleasure she is actually getting from this.

The effects of the movie are actually quite subdued, with not much really being shown overall.  A lot of the nasty things that happen are more suggested at or shown without bloody detail.  I actually think that that benefits the movie.  Considering the year the movie was released and some of the other Nazisploitation films I’ve seen and how badly their effects come off, I think it was a good choice to not try and show everything.  Now concerning the stuff that they actually show that is a different story.  Most of the time it really looks pretty silly and it does help to show the age of the film.

So this is supposed to be the Nazisploitation film of Nazisploitation films.  Does it live up to its reputation?  Sure, for the most part.  There are some truly nasty things that happen in the movie (one being the dinner of roast of unborn baby Jew) and after watching it you really don’t get a feel that Lise really walks away a victor.  Most movies try to make it so you walk away with the feeling that the bad guys got exactly what they had coming to them, but this isn’t one of those.  One of the big things about this movie is the whole Nazisploitation angle.  For those of you who don’t know what Nazisploitation is, well, the best way I can describe it is a movie that takes place at a concentration camp and there is usually a bunch of torture (usually females) to the Jews.  That is really what Nazisploitation is in a nutshell.  It’s really an acquired taste and I understand that most would avoid these types of movies, but it falls into the realm of horror and I’m always looking for something new and different that I’ve never seen and this movie completely gives that to me.  But be forewarned that it does hit on some touchy stuff.

About The Drudgeon

I don't remember my real name or where I came from. All I know is that I'm traped in an underground cave with nothing but a TV, DVD player and a notebook and pen. They keep calling me The Drudgeon, I don't even know what that means. Someone keeps dropping horror movies in and yelling at me to watch them and write about what I watch. Then I eat the DVD and case, because they tell me if I consume the horror I will understand the horror. I think there are three of them. So if you are reading this right now, HELP ME!!!!!!! OUCH!!!! Someone just poked me with a sea urchin attacked to a pool cue, what the fuck is going on?
