Do not mess with Paul Bunyan or his blue ox!
* * *
So the movie starts some time ago with some guys, including Foreman Bill (Dan Haggerty), talking and checking on some freshly cooked meat. After that they are attacked by a deformed man and Bill his cut in half. We jump forward to modern day where tough Sgt. Hoke (Thomas Downey) and soft Ms. K (Kristina Kopf) are meeting some kids that have broken the law and they are going into the woods as a way to not go to juvenile hall. Among them is cocky Zack (Jesse Kove), slutty Trish (Jill Evyn), computer genius Marty (Cliff Williams), tough latina Rosa (Victoria Ramos) and overprotected CB (Amber Connor). They go into the woods and Zack does something stupid that attracts the attention of Paul Bunyan, actually it’s Gunnar Wolfgang Bunyan (Chris Hahn). So the killings begin at the hand of giant Mr. Bunyan and his mighty axe. Will anyone survive and why do I actually like this movie as much as I do?
So the acting in the movie isn’t actually all that great, but at the same time there were a few things that actually surprised me about the acting. First off is Joe Estevez. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him get so into a character as he does with Meeks. He just takes command of the role and never lets go. The rest struggle to keep up with Estevez and the only one that comes close is Chris Hahn. He plays the character of Paul Bunyan very well and gives that character more than just fear attached, he gives the character… well just that, character. Instead of just being a giant that kills everyone, this character actually has a background, emotions and an actual reason behind why he does what he does. That says something about who wrote this. Instead of just making Mr. Bunyan a straight up villain they take a different route, which is really nice.
As far as the effects of the movie are concerned, they are actually really…
Drudgie, sorry to interrupt you, and I’m gonna let you finish, but…
…Skin Crawl is one of the best horror movie reviews of all time.
